The Most Dreaded Word In Golf Slice

Almost all beginners and high handicap golfers share the same problem the golf slice. For right handed golfers that means the ball may start on line, but quickly starts bending to the right. Of course for lefties, the ball starts bending to the left. The shot has a not so nice nickname the banana ball!

It is a very weak shot that typically loses distance. In extreme cases the golf slice can sometimes go farther right than it goes forward, leaving you just as far or farther from the green.

Just to be clear, the golf slice is not the same as pushing your shot to the right. It is often not even caused by an open club face. Much of the time, it is caused by the swing path of the club head prior to impact. Coming over the top or from the outside in is usually the culprit. This places so much side spin on the ball that once the it reaches a certain point in flight, the spin takes over and moves the ball sideways in the air.

The reason most players that fight the golf slice find it difficult to correct is that the solution is counter-intuitive. The ball goes to the right, so our mind wants us to swing from the right to hit the ball to the left. This cutting across the ball just produces more side spin and the problem just gets worse.

Luckily there is a lot of online video lessons and drills to help cure the golf slice. Take a look around, they are easy to find. Here is one to get you started. I hope it helps.
