Golf Swing Fundamentals Dont Have To Be Boring
One of the most important of the golf swing fundamentals is your posture. I know what youre thinking posture is boring. That may be so, but good posture will promote more distance and more accuracy. So lets look at a couple of golf swing drills that relate to setting up in a good fundamental posture.
First take your normal setup to the golf ball. Next stand up straight. Now hold the club horizontally in front of you and let it rest across your thighs. At this point your knees do not have any bend to them, so just flex them enough to take the bend out. After you have done that, move your butt back just a couple of inches like you are about to sit in a chair. With your body in this great position, set up with the club and address the ball.
Like most golf swing fundamentals, a picture is worth a thousand words and a video is worth a million. So take a look at this video as the instructor shows you exactly what I mean.
If you watched the video all of the way through, you also learned about that little move in the address position that will better align your spine with the proper tilted angle. He also talked about something I have not ever tried. The suggestion was to raise the toe of the club off the ground. I guess I always thought that you should start with the sole of the club level with the ground. I may have to try that out at the range just to see if I can tell a difference.
The last golf swing fundamental covered in the video had to do with the distance you should stand from the ball. I know that many time on the course when I find myself either pulling or pushing my shots, I can make a simple move forward or backward as I address the ball and it will make an immediate difference. Using the little trick of swinging the right arm sounds like it might just work.
Well, hopefully this golf swing fundamental has been helpful. Getting into the correct posture is definitely not the most exciting part of the golf swing, but it is one of those basics that can pay big dividends on the course.
