Chipping Tips Leaving It Close
We all want to learn to crush the ball off of the tee. But taking time to learn some chipping tips would be a much better use of our time. There are many more strokes to be saved on and around the green than from the tee box.
I heard a great piece of advice just this week. It was quite simple, but somewhat profound too. It simply said, If you want to reduce the number of putts per round, learn how to chip it closer to the hole. How many more putts would I sink and how many less three-putts would I have if my chips ended up within 10 feet instead of more than 20 feet away? It is definitely time for me to find some really good chipping tips.
Here is a simple video containing some really good chipping tips. Take a look and see what you think.
One of the first things that struck me from the video was the choice of clubs. I have gotten into the habit of always using my pitching wedge from everywhere within 100 yards unless I have to punch the ball out of trouble. I need to start using a less lofted club around the edges of the green. I think I will experiment with my seven and eight iron more.
I typically find myself leaving the ball too short on these types of chips. It is probably due to having too much loft. Although, I think I may be decelerating my swing into impact. This is probably caused by a fear of hitting it way too thin and racing it all the way across and off of the other side of the green.
I will continue to look around the web for more videos of chipping tips. If I find anything interesting, helpful or unusual, I will be sure to bring it to you here.
